Arthur Ruben was born in Brooklyn, NY and lived within one block of four generations of family members. He lived there until age 6, when the untimely death of his 34-year-old father and remarriage of his mother uprooted the family to Newark, New Jersey. Coping with the abrupt changes in his youth and adolescence generated the inspiration for his first novel, IVY HILL, written in collaboration with Eleanor Cooney.
Art has 3 university degrees, including a Master of Social Work from Catholic University of America and a joint Master of Business and Public Financial Management from American University, in Washington, D.C. His career included serving as Clinical Director in a residential treatment center for adolescent girls for 4 years, then 39 years in the financial services industry, both as an insurance broker and certified financial planner. A frequently requested speaker, he was the recipient of many industry and company awards. He was a life member of The Million Dollar Round Table at the time of his retirement in 2020.
A true Pisces, Art spends equal amounts of time swimming laps and worrying about everyone. His other passions are lifting weights, running, making vegan smoothies, playing the piano, and listening to 1960s music (the type he used to play with his band during high school). He and his wife reside in New York's Hudson Valley. His 3 talented children, a son, a stepson and a stepdaughter and now 5 grandchildren have all been adeptly schooled through his wit and in the art of collecting "No"s as a key to a "Yes"!
