Jennifer Waring

Jennifer has worked in new music in Canada for over thirty years.  As artistic director of Continuum (Toronto), she was involved in commissioning new work, presenting, touring, recording, and mounting innovative projects such as L’Oreille Fine, with the Royal Ontario Museum, and SHIFT Festival of Canadian and Dutch music, film and literature.  She also created and ran Composing for a Change, an audience engagement project first mounted with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra and later with Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony and Music Toronto.

Jennifer grew up in Gatineau Hills, Quebec, where she was effectively raised by rocks, trees and the experimental house she grew up in, designed by her uncle, James Strutt.  She trained as flutist in Canada, England and France, before landing in Toronto where she performed freelance and was on faculty at the Royal Conservatory of Music.  Now an artistic producer, she is currently working on Trace, a project that brings together groups from across Canada and the Netherlands expressing in myriad concerts and events the musical links between the two countries.  Jennifer also writes YA and children’s fiction and is care-giver for her elderly mother; she divides her time unequally between in Dundas, Ontario and Amsterdam.
