Natalie MacLean

Natalie MacLean is a wine author, speaker and judge. She teaches wildly popular online wine and food pairing courses at

An accredited sommelier, she is a member of the National Capital Sommelier Guild, the Wine Writers Circle and several French wine societies with complicated but impressive names. At the World Food Media Awards in Australia, Natalie was named the World’s Best Drink Writer. She is the only person to have won both the M.F.K. Fisher Distinguished Writing Award from the James Beard Foundation and the M.F.K. Fisher Award for Excellence in Culinary Writing from Les Dames d'Escoffier International.

Natalie has also won four James Beard Foundation Journalism awards, six Bert Greene Awards for excellence in food journalism from the International Association of Culinary Professionals (IACP), four awards from the American Association of Food Journalists, four from the North American Travel Writers Association, three honourable mentions at the National Magazine Awards, and Gold at the Taste Canada Awards for Best Culinary Narrative.

Natalie’s newsletter is read by more than 270,000 wine lovers, making it one of the largest on the Internet. It helps readers make choices from restaurant wine lists, match wine with food, get good value buying tips and chuckle over the lighter side of wine. She's the host of Unreserved Wine Talk, selected as one of the best drinks podcasts by The New York Times.

Both of her books, Red, White and Drunk All Over: A Wine-Soaked Journey from Grape to Glass and Unquenchable: A Tipsy Quest for the World's Best Bargain Wines were selected as one of Amazon's Best Books of the Year.
