Gurki Basra

Gurki reluctantly became the first reality TV star for Netflix when she signed up for, what she thought was, a small independent documentary. That show ended up being Netflix’s first dating reality TV show which turned Netflix into the reality TV behemoth that it is today. She ended up on a Time Square billboard with a viral moment that resulted in her story garnering extensive international media attention.

That viral moment opened her eyes to how much single women were struggling with their mental health when it came to love and she decided to launch her newsletter Happily Ever Single in order to provide tips for single women on how to be happy in a world created for twosomes. At 41 years old, Gurki began studying Clinical Psychology at Pepperdine’s prestigious Master’s program in order to become a future therapist and further help develop the skills necessary to better the human experience for other women.

Prior to her Netflix moment, Gurki spent her career within the fashion and retail industry where she is a thought leader with nearly two decades of experience working at various iconic companies -and for well respected executives- including, Barneys New York, Brunello Cucinelli, Neiman Marcus, Victoria’s Secret and Old Navy. After nearly fifteen years in the industry, she became an independent consultant working with brands and retailers to provide strategic support to executive leadership within merchandising and planning functions. Gurki holds a Bachelors and Masters in Business Administration from the University of Texas at Austin.

Gurki is happiest in nature and when being physically active. She is highly spiritual and curious about life and the human experience. She is the daughter of Sikh Punjabi parents who moved to France shortly after their arranged marriage. When she was 12 years old, they migrated from France to Houston and since then she’s lived in Austin, Dallas, Columbus, San Francisco, New York. She now resides in Los Angeles. Gurki is divorced and single. Although she has no children of her own, she loves spending time with her many adorable nieces and nephews.
