Born in Philadelphia, Markus Redmond had his eye on the world of entertainment from an early age. When his parents moved to Ventura County, California, at the age of 12, he found himself even closer to his goals. By the time he was in high school, he was driving himself to Los Angeles and back (60 miles each way) on Thursday evenings to study acting with acclaimed acting coach Cliff Osmond.

This led to his professional stage debut, starring in famed playwright Steven Dietz’s Ten November—a solemn requiem for the sinking of the S.S. Edmund Fitzgerald—at the Los Angeles Theater Center. It was on that stage that he was discovered by 20th Century Fox casting directors. He auditioned for and got the guest role of Raymond Alexander on the American hit series Doogie Howser, M.D. His portrayal of a conflicted wannabe gang member not only resonated with audiences, but caused the show’s co-creator, late television impresario Steven Bochco, to make the character a series regular, and soon after, the series ranked in the Top Ten of the Nielsen ratings.  

Bochco recognized a writer in Markus, and took the young actor under his wing, inviting him into story meetings, script development sessions, storyboard construction, and even the editing process of the critically acclaimed and Emmy-winning classic series NYPD Blue and Murder One, two shows that Markus also starred in for Bochco. He was handpicked by Larry David to appear on Curb Your Enthusiasm, was invited into the joke writing process by Paul Reiser and Larry Charles for his guest appearances on Mad About You, played a variety of demons on Angel, and gained a bit of infamy as “Detective Kevin” in David Fincher’s cult classic, Fight Club, among many other roles.

Eventually, the call of the written word pulled at him again. Markus took the lessons he learned during his days with Bochco and drafted his first feature film screenplay, I Would Die For You, a thriller that the now chairwoman and CEO of Warner Bros. Television Group, Channing Dungey, attached herself to as producer. She shepherded the script to its preemptive sale at Columbia Pictures. With the first screenplay still in development, Markus sold a second screenplay, The After Killer, also to Columbia.

Markus decided to combine the success he found in writing with acting and wrote the independent film If I Had Known I Was A Genius, which had its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival. He played the lead role in the film alongside Academy Award Winner Whoopi Goldberg and Academy Award Nominee Sharon Stone, both of whom signed onto the film based on Markus’ script alone.

Since then, Markus has amassed a veritable catalog of content in almost every genre and expanded his creative output into directing. He wrote, directed, produced, and starred in the indie thriller The 6th Degree, which premiered on Amazon Prime.

Markus has a fondness for history and how it shapes our present, a love for fantastical, supernatural creatures, a passion for all forms of storytelling, and an obsession with Singaporean television dramas.
