Jewish genealogist Lisa Brahin's TEARS OVER RUSSIA: A SEARCH FOR FAMILY AND THE LEGACY OF UKRAINE'S POGROMS has sold to Jessica Case at Pegasus.

TEARS OVER RUSSIA is a saga of the author's grandmother and her community's fight for survival that shines a light on a forgotten period of Jewish history; the Ukrainian pogroms of 1917-1921. During this time an estimated 100,000-250,000 Jews were murdered in anti-Jewish attacks that could be seen as a precursor of the Holocaust. This new non-fiction book is about the resilience, courage, and hope of ordinary people faced with violence and hate.

“Tears Over Russia is a fascinating book,” said The Rights Factory agent Kathryn Willms. “It’s an important historical document preserving stories and accounts in danger of being lost forever and bringing attention to a little known or understood tragedy of the early 20th century. At the same time, it’s a lively and engaging family history – full of delightful, strange, and at times horrific details – and an homage to a lost way to life and what it took to build a new one. Above all, it’s an incredible act of love. Lisa has spent a lifetime working to preserve the history of her family, her community, and those who have been forgotten. This is a culmination of an incredible journey for Lisa and I hope the start of a new and exciting chapter. It’s been such a thrill to help her bring this story to the world.”

TEARS OVER RUSSIA: A SEARCH FOR FAMILY AND THE LEGACY OF UKRAINE'S POGROMS is scheduled for publication in June 2022.
