Kathryn Willms represents adult non-fiction and selected adult fiction. She is particularly interested in manuscripts with a unique point of view that teach us something new or change the way we see the world.
She is currently focused on building her non-fiction list in sports, social justice, nature/environmental topics, and food and drink. However, as a generalist who simply likes “good books,” she’s open to a variety of genres. She is passionate about bringing ambitious, unconventional, and joyous books into the world, would rather laugh than cry, and is ultimately a sucker for a good story compellingly told.
Kathryn has over 12 years of professional writing, editing, and management experience. Since 2017, she has run Kwill Communications, an editorial firm specializing in educational and academic work, as well as providing editing for non-fiction authors. Prior to this, she was vice-president and senior editor at Colborne Communications. As publisher at Iguana Books, she oversaw acquisitions, production, sales, and marketing for over 25 books, a list that included fiction, non-fiction, and children’s. Before her foray into publishing, she worked in financial services and as a sports reporter. She holds an MA in English from the University of Calgary.
Over the course of her career, Kathryn has taken pride in building strong and supportive relationships with authors, and helping them find the right voice, structure, style, and audience for their work. She is excited to be continuing this work with The Rights Factory.
